Terahertz Wireless Communications With Flexible Index Modulation Aided Pilot Design

Terahertz (THz) wireless communication is envisioned as a promising technology, which capable of providing ultra-high-rate transmission up to Terabit per second. However, some hardware imperfections, are generally neglected in the existing literature concerning lower data rates and traditional operating frequencies, cannot be overlooked THz systems. Hardware imperfections usually consist phase noise, in-phase/quadrature imbalance, nonlinearity power amplifier. Due time-variant characteristic frequent pilot insertion required, leading decreased spectral efficiency. In this paper, address issue, novel design strategy proposed based on index modulation (IM), where positions pilots flexibly changed frame, additional information bits can conveyed by indices pilots. Furthermore, turbo receiving algorithm developed, jointly performs detection channel estimation an iterative manner. It shown that receiver works well even under situation prior knowledge state outdated. Analytical simulation results validate schemes achieve significant enhancement bit-error rate performance accuracy, whilst attaining higher efficiency comparison with its classical counterpart.
